10 Year Anniversary!...

I just wanted to share that 10 years ago I started my weight loss journey after the loss of my grandfather. At 14 I lost 60 lbs and officially 10 years later I am proud to say I am still dedicated to living a healthy lifestyle. It has been a sweaty, difficult and wonderful journey that is pretty much never easy. Thank you to everyone who has stuck through my ups and downs. I'm excited to usher in the next 10 years with a week of TRX, training at Equinox, boxing, walking, and running. How far have you come in the last 10 years?

Who needs a purse when you have a water bottle?

For those of you that know me and my love of convenience, you will definitely understand why I like the Sport+Store. When I am running out the door to TRX... usually late... the last thing I want is to have to stuff my pockets full of things as I run to get there. In comes the Sport+Store! You can actually store keys and credit cards in your water bottle. And since you should always be hydrating during your workout, you should be able to keep an eye on your valuables the whole time. Genius! Plus I always love to support small businesses started by female entrepreneurs. Which is why I of course bought my mom and friend one, so check them out!

My June New Years Resolution....

You know when your blog's last post is in January and we are heading into June that you are not being the best blogger.... I have to admit that life has gotten in the way and starting a job that requires sitting in front of a computer all day has detracted from my love of blogging. However, I am no longer going to let this get to me and I am going to strive to wade back into the blogging pool. I must note that this has been said before but lets just ignore that and move forward.

It is officially June 1st tomorrow and the summer is coming. There are now 2 months or less between me and a bikini surrounded by my fabulously slim, gorgeous friends. And after working at a desk that I had to arrive at by 6 am for several months, lets just say I am in less than in tip-top shape... much to my trainer, and friend, Sara's chagrin. So it is back to the starting line and this time I am actually entered into a weight loss competition. I took the chance to enjoy my weekend with my deadline being my inevitable return to the city. My biggest goal is to not just add exercise this time but cut out all the snacks and junk food in the workplace in order to get back to basics and into that bikini. So this is the start and there should be some fun posts along the way....

Bring it on 2011!...

As it is officially the new year it is time to get back to the basics and figure out what I want to get out of 2011. I think the most appropriate way to do that is to reflect on some of the major changes of 2010. I'm going to stick with the big ones because I tend to think of checking anything off my growing to-do list as a major accomplishment....

  • On January 2, 2010 I made the move to San Francisco. After saying for years I wanted to do it, I finally did it and moved into a two bedroom apartment with my friend Kaitlyn.
  • I started narrowing down my career choices and held positions in online marketing, public relations, retail, and now customer service (a means to an end)
  • I've met and developed strong friendships with incredible people all over San Francisco
And in the last month of 2010,
  • Started a new position with Mindjet, the leader in MindMapping Software
  • Moved into my own apartment and am officially living on my own (and this time I even have a closet!)
I crossed some incredible milestones last year and am starting 2011 with my two feet solidly underneath me. I am in the best place personally I've been since Bucknell graduation in 2009. And that is why I am saying no thank you to resolutions I won't follow, and am setting goals for myself that I will. Whether they are personal, work related, or health-minded, I have deadlines to keep as I use these goals to keep moving in the right direction. With that, bring it on 2011!

Say Goodbye to the "Uni-Boob"...

I have two words for you... sports and bra. One of the things that goes along with being a woman are the wonderful accessories that are your chest, but they can also be the bane of our existence. The bigger they are the harder it can be to find the right bra to make the girls feel supported and one that doesn't look as if you raided your grandmother's closet. After reading a recent article in SELF magazine I had a horrifying moment where I pictured my chesticles hanging down to my knees after all of the athletics I've done in my life. The biggest learning I gleaned from the article was the destruction of the "uni-boob" we have all lived with for years! Apparently when you smoosh your chest together the weight moves as one rather than each individual breast. In laymen terms you have 10lbs moving instead of just 5lbs, aka tearing more breast tissue every time you do anything besides sitting on the couch. The quest began for the perfect solution to my bra-woes and I thought I would get back to my blogging to share my bra adventure with you.

Sadly the right bra was definitely not the ones I had been using but I found one at one of my favorite online stores, RoadRunnerSports.com.  Cross referencing the SELF article, I wrote a short list for what is important. As a D cup there are certain requirements which means my list consisted of 360 degree support, separation (aka no "uni-boob"), and wide cushioned straps. I read reviews, checked my list, and decided on Moving Comfort's Juno Bra.

Once the bra finally arrived I put it to the ultimate test.... Equinox's Shredmill at 6:30am. Basically this class involves Jan telling us to better our running form, hit goal speeds, and increase our inclines to scary levels. The first class I went to meant 3 bras for me, 2 sports bras and one built into my tank top, which of course still had me bouncing around the whole forty-five minutes. However this time times  changed with the Moving Comfort bra keeping everything in its place. For once I wasn't fiddling with my sports bra every ten minutes and was able to focus on trying to survive the class.... The lesson today is that you have got to take care of the girls, and a sports bra is one of your greatest accessories!! Supporting them is more important than making sure you have the right tunes on your iPod or how great your hair looks in your new moisture wicking headband, so here is to the future of happy, healthy breasts.

A little R&R...

Last night I took a road trip to Tahoe with one of my best girlfriends. It consisted of weird music choices, random talks, and pretty much all you could eat yogurt pretzels. And of course I loved every moment of it, even though I might have to avoid some of my go-to musicians and anything pretzel for quite some time.

It was all worth it when I woke up this morning knowing I had nowhere to be and no commitments for 3 days straight. I ran (lets go with I "ralk-ed" which is what I refer to as running some and walking most) with Callie, grabbed some coffee, and pretty much soaked up some rays (fully sunblocked from head to toe) all day long. Then we made dinner for my mom, and her grandpa and uncle, which was of course, fantastic. And I would also like to make a shout out to her uncle's wonderful bbq skills as well as her gpop's fabulous ability to let us kick him out of the kitchen.

It was an amazing day of reconnecting with myself and focusing on the infinite potential there is out there. I cannot wait to wake up tomorrow re-focused and ready to create an incredible life for myself... and to see how my golf skills are these days....
